Commentary
Esau and his royal Abrahamic descendants then married into the clans of the Horites [see: his son Eliphaz, married to Timna the Horite], the enigmatic and cryptic chiefs listed in Genesis and 1 Chronicles, the sons of Seir. Seir, according to Ungers and Nelson's dictionaries, actually translates as "rough skinned and hairy", just as Nephilim were famous for their rough and hairy skin, suggesting Seir and the Horites were indeed Nephilim by implication. In fact, according to Josephus, Hebrews came to callanyone with tough and hairy skin "Seir", again connecting Horites, rebellious Edomites, and Nephilim together. Esau, according to Jospehus, made it a habit of marrying Canaanite and other (Nephilim) wives, which his father Isaac did not approve of...Esau later married Basemath, daughter of Ishmael, as a peace offering to please Isaac.
